My feet had been hurting for years and I assumed it was from developing bunions. I also had a foot fungus. I saw one doctor on Chestnut Street 3 or 4 years ago about both of these issues, and he turned out to be terrible! He told me to get take the pill for my toe fungus and told me my bunions were fine for now and to wait it out as long as possible before getting bunion surgery. Dr. O'Brien, by contrast, examined me much more thoroughly; he looked at my feet and had me walk down the hall and told me he didn't think bunions were my problem, rather he thought I had early onset of arthritis and advised me to get xrays. Turned out he was right! So I am now wearing orthotics to help slow down the progression and ease the pain. Bunions were NOT the problem! Also, re: foot fungus, he told me I had a very mild case and suggested I first try some creams (the other doctor said he didn't know of any to prescribe!). He made me aware of the risks associated with the pill and said at this point it wasn't worth the risk. He told me average cure rates for the ointments and pill. He was much more thorough and comprehensive and thoughtful in his diagnosis. The only reason I didn't give him five stars is that one of my feet still hurts despite wearing orthotics so I need to find out why.
