I work just around the block, and originally stopped here for the convenience and because I don't like the corporate, least-common-denominator pet shops.

Needless to say, I was very pleased to discover such a great place. The employees are very knowledgeable and helpful, and they have lots of high-quality products available to keep your pet happy and healthy.

We bring our dog to an occasional breed meetup here -- they have a gated yard which they seal up, and they close down the store to the general public and give that breed (and the owners) the run of the place for an hour or two. Wine and appetizers are served for the humans, and there are goody bags for the doggies. Great way to socialize your puppy!

Muttropolis has some unique items for your four legged friend. They have the high end foods for those looking for the organic foods. If you dress up your dog, this place is perfect! They have a wide variety of pet supplies, including beds, leashes, collars, and toys. Their staff is really friendly as well.
They also have dog events in their courtyard for the dogs to play and the owners to mingle, all while saving some money on any purchases. Check out their website as sometimes they do specific breeds of dog parties. Just be prepared for higher price tags.

This shop is in the fantastic Cedros Design District of Solana Beach. Muttropolis has their own parking spots so it's easy to get in and out if all you need is a bag of food. The food prices are comparable or less than most independent pet food shops and they carry brands that the larger companies don't stock. (Make sure you sign up for their discount card.) They are willing to order things for you if you know what you want. Dogs are welcome and there are enough squeaky toys to send you into crazy-ville. Don't stay too long... you might spend all your money here. But don't stay away because you aren't that shi-shi of a pet owner because they have your basic items, too. Still, if you are one to buy a sparkly collar for your cat... then you'll feel right at home!

The name of the store is what initially drew my attention and made me stop by the store. Inside I found great pet supplies for my dog. The staff is friendly and knowledgable. My dog loves the staff and they do a great job making her feel comfortable. Reasonable rates are another plus.
