This was my first wax museum. It was pretty good. Creepy, dark...just right. The figures were, by and large, really well-done and some of them were downright uncanny. The focus of the museum is on local history, but it wasn't dull at all--and, for a stereotypical tourist like myself, it was a painless way to learn some of the history of the town. While the museum isn't in a like-new state (apparently the descriptions of the exhibits were once recorded to be played when you pushed a button--something I don't think I missed, really), it was a really fun way to pass a couple of hours.

Educational & fun!
We'd read about Musee Conti in a guidebook of attractions in New Orleans. We thought it would be some cheesy celebrity-centric wax museum, but were pleasantly surprised that it was far from that. It's on a quiet street away from crowds and other attractions. On the day we visited, we were literally the only two people in the museum for the entire time we were there (about an hour and half)! Now, we counted this solitude as a plus--no whining kids, no pushing and shoving, just a leisurely stroll through the exhibits. There were push-buttons on what looked like speakers, but they didn't work for some reason. It was okay, though, because each exhibit had a written description of the scene depicted. The wax figures were convincing, and we learned quite a bit in a short time about New Orleans history. It was a relaxing diversion on a hot spring afternoon!

Fun once by Elizabeth W. at InsiderPages
This is a fun thing to do one time. After that it's a bit dull and silly. Take the kids or out of town guests and it makes it a bit more interesting.

Surreal
Tucked in a back corner of the French Quarter, I lived in New Orleans for 20 years and never knew it was there! It was amazing to find this little gem within the city! The Currator was wonderfully abliging and everything was so interesting! Definitly something different in this town!
