Went for Taste of Hope to benefit...
I went because Tres participated in the Taste of Hope to benefit the Carbondale Relay. The food was good and the service was great. Plus, I love they give back to the local community!‎

The food is actually really good, but their service is absolutely terrible. There are a few good servers, but most of them have been pretty unfriendly and not very attentive. It's not uncommon to sit and wait for someone to bring you a refill or take your order while all the servers sit at the employee break table and eat. Don't bother complaining about your service or a messed up order either, they won't bother to try to make it right.‎

I worked there for a year or so...
Lee Nudleman was the "Third" hombre and was in charge of the kitchen. Gary ran the bar (and the white stuff ;]) and Bert pretty much ran the business part I guess u could say. Lee was a killer cook and everything was pretty much hand made. The re-fried beans, the salsa, even the tortilla chips were all prepared in the kitchen. I should know, I prepped half of it. We shredded, sliced, diced, fried, and baked everything in the relatively small kitchen. Lee made a flan that was incredible :>. Things changed after he left several years ago though. They still have a great bar (best margarita around) and adequate food. Some stuff is still excellent (some of their nacho dishes and the hot wings for sure) but ALL of their food was excellent back then. I remember the salsa the most because I made that every day and, yes, that has changed also, albeit slightly. There is just something cheaper tasting about it (and the tortilla chips). Overall, I would still probably give it 3/5 ...

Avoid this place at all cost!
I took my uncle here for his birthday. I went to the restroom and when I returned, these four Mexicans were raping him outside. And yes, we're talking RAPE RAPE.‎

Terrible Food
Avoid this place. Went to Tres Honbres with a freind of mine who remembered it being really good back when he went to SIU. It is definitely not good anymore. I ordered the Chipoltle Burrito with chicken, which is supposedly one of their "spicy" dishes. It came covered in an awful cheese sauce that had no flavor I could discern other than cheese. The chicken appeared and tasted like it came out of a can, no flavoring whatsoever. Regular salsa: bland. Guacamole: bland. Hot salsa: tasted like bad hot sauce and black pepper. The service was good, but the poor waitress is being hampered by a kitchen that sends out crap.‎
