Muffin Top Maker
Personally, my favorite steakhouse in San Diego. The filet is so good they might as well be serving steak-flavored butter. Sides are more wide-ranging than some of the other places around town. Wine list is extensive and complete. Only thing I would improve is that the dress code be enforced a little more (nothing like digging into a $40 steak while the guy next to you looks like he’d be just as comfortable standing in line at Mickey-D’s).

Pricey and memorable
Morton's Steakhouse, located downtown San Diego on J Street is a premiere upper crust restaurant thats serves everything a la carte. The food was excellent, the service was also excellent, and the ambiance was excellent.
I took my daughter there for her birthday since she loves steak. I made reservations informing them of that, and when our family arrived, they had a custom menu made for her with "Happy Birthday (her name)" on it. That was a nice touch. Before ordering, the waiter carted out everything on the menu - showing us each cut of steak and a live 2-pound lobster (well, because lobster was on the menu too).
We all had steaks, and they were excellent. The sides, though a la carte and pricey, were very generous. My wife and I shared a bottle of Petie Sirah, which was a perfect pairing with our steaks. After dinner my daughter was presented her little birthday cake dessert. Again, nice touch!
All in all, it was a very memorable dinner because it was my daughter's birthday, but I told her next time, I'd use the money to get a plane ticket to go to Hawaii. She decidedly agreed.

Great choice to take a date
One of my favorite appetizers here is the Jumbo Lump Crab Cake. Baked Five Onion Soup is also a excellent choice for soup that I like also. For my entree I usually take the Cajun Ribeye Steak which is very tender and tasty. Great service and great ambiance.

This one not as good this time
Morton?s is my favorite steak house. I have eaten at the ones in New Orleans, Las Vegas, Louisville, Orlando, Cincinnati and now San Diego. San Diego was by far my least favorite. I don?t mind the price and the food is normally great there which is why it is my favorite restaurant, but this time the service was below adequate and the food was not even served correctly. My wife?s salad showed up in the middle of her entree. The wait for the food was extreme and the entire evening left a lot to be desired. I will try them again because I love the food but when dinner for 2 is $300.00 with no wine I expect better and I hope the next time it will be or I will be a Ruth Chris client.
