Amazing gift shop and family days
Right now the Mingei has a Maneki Neko (Japanese Lucky Cat) exhibit where they have something like 150 of them made of all different materials. It's a folk art museum so they have all sorts of neat stuff from all over the world. They also have family Sundays where admission is discounted from 1-4pm. Kids can make a craft and they usually have other activities for them to do as well.

The gift shop here is also a great place to find a gift. They have a big wall of unique books and some interesting jewelry. Lots of fair trade items too. I love all the Japanese tea sets and sake sets that are similar to ones you'd find in a department store in Tokyo.

I definitely do not come here enough. The Mingei also participates in residents are free Tuesdays, though I'm not sure if it's every Tuesday or just some.
