Wasted My Time: I was in Florida visiting my grandparents who are in their 90's. While I was there I needed to arrange for a cleaning service to come in. I called the Vero Beach Merry Maids on Friday morning and left a message, asking to make an appointment for an cleaning estimate. A man, the owner, returned my call on the following day, and offered to come out and give me an estimate even though they don't usually work on Saturdays. He arrived at the time he promised, and gave me the estimate for the cleaning I required. I asked him what his estimate would be if I eliminated the master bedroom and bath. He told me that he couldn't revise his estimate because it was Saturday and he was doing me a big favor by coming out in the first place! I basically said that I couldn't sign a contract with him without a new estimate, so he reluctantly agreed and gave me the estimate. I signed an agreement with him for the first time cleaning and the subsequent weekly and monthly cleanings. I also signed a credit card payment authorization. We agreed that I would get in touch with him the following Monday, to schedule the first cleaning. I called him as agreed, and he immediately told me that he had changed his mind and was going to have to charge me more than his estimate for the weekly cleanings. When I objected he became very belligerent and repeated that he had severely incovenienced himself by coming out on a Saturday. I told him that I appreciated his coming out, but that wasn't an excuse for breaking our signed agreement. He hung up on me! I am now 2500 miles away and trying to arrange an alternate service to come and do cleaning for my grandparents.
