If you are a Local on Hollywood Beach, you remember how great McGowan's Bar was before the current owner. The hamburger hangout scenes from the movie Porky's were filmed there. There was always great live music (Steve & Rob, or CAPT Bob) inside on Saturday afternoons and evenings - which made it worthwhile to come in off the beach and out of the heat, and into the air conditioning. Great service and excellent food. The current owner doesn't have live music until late at night. He's missing the local beach goers (who are his YEAR ROUND Clients) because his wait staff is surly, and not welcoming at all. He is trying to attract the evening boardwalk strollers from South and Central America, but the inside of the bar screams DIVE!!! The Tiki Bar he installed looks great - but he needs some oscilating fans to move the air...too hot & stuffy. The food served is Peruvian ... ick! I think the owner forgets he was serving a mostly American clientele. To be honest, I don't know how he has stayed open. I guess the poker tournaments he hosts pays the bills. I never see a crowd of locals hanging out inside. The Owner missed the boat when it comes to running a beach bar/restaurant...too bad because McGowan's has the potential to be a GREAT place to hang out for food, drinks and entertainment.
