Our cancer vet prescribed a new chemo medication for our Husky, who had come out of remission and was having problems breathing. We stopped buying medications at the vet because the prices were so high. When we have enough time, we buy the chemo drugs in Canada. This time, Husky needed the treatment within 2 days so we had to buy locally. My friend was calling around and was recommended to Max Drugs.
The pharmacist started asking lots of questions - age of the dog, name of the vet, how much the vet charges, and so on.
My friend kept asking if the pharmacist would just let him know if Max Drugs could get it and for how much, and then they could procede from there. They went around like this for a while.
The pharmacist ended the conversation by saying, "Yes, I can get it and no, I'm not going to sell it to you."
My friend had already called several places by this time. This is a chemo drug not available at chain pharmacies like CVS and Walgreens.
I called Max Drugs myself. I know my friend can be brusque, so apologized to the pharmacist. I told him that it was a matter of life and death. He said he wouldn't sell it to me, to have a nice day, and hung up the phone on me.
My impression of the pharmacist at Max Drugs is of an arrogant man, who is a frustrated doctor with a God complex. I wonder how often he essentially practices medicine without a license.
