When a place is so hyped like Margie's, I expect the ice cream to amazing, euphoria inducing tasty goodness. This was just good, not spectacular.

The menu at first seems overwhelming but then you realize that it's all just variations on the same thing - sundae with hot fudge, sundae with caramel, sundae with butterscotch, sudae with hot fudge mixed with marshmallows - do each of these really need their own name?

Prices are pretty low, portions were big (sharing one sundae was plenty) and the ice cream was tasty, but this isn't the second coming or anything. And they screwed up our order - we said no nuts and whipped cream on the side and it was all on there. And I agree that the place takes 'old-fashioned' in their decor to the level of well, just plain old. A few updates wouldn't hurt.

It was neat to see a pilot show for the Travel Channel being filmed there though - keep your eyes out for my debut.
Margies Candies - get the Terrapins
I live in Rolling Meadows and travel to Margies
at Easter & Christmas to get boxes of Terrapins.

Terrapins are their version of the chocolate-caramel turtles. The Terrapins are better than the original
Fannie May recipe. They are sold by ½ doz. or dozen and are reasonably priced. The caramel and chocolate quality are superb. When giving as a gift to someone who has never tasted them before, their reaction always is, "God! These are the best turtles I've ever had! Where did you get these!"

The ice cream is adequate (I’m a Haagen Daz fan myself). Have never eaten a meal there.
This corner shop is teeny but old and charming. Call ahead if you need several boxes of Terrapins.
They are made daily and sell out quick during the holidays. Have purchased large solid chocolate Santas and Easter Bunnys that are handmade from their antique molds. The chocolate quality is top-notch.

Worth the trip.

Chocolate Lovers go Mmmmmm......
The place has simply the Best Chocolate Ice cream in town, its called the Brownie Ala Mode. I ordered it with Chocolate Ice cream and Pecans, it comes in this huge bowl shaped like a shell, with 3 scoops of yummy chocolate ice cream, a chocolate brownie, whipped cream, sprinkled with pecans and they give you a jar of warm molten chocolate fudge. Have a spoon of this a you will close your eyes and go Mmmmmmmm.... Heaven!

chocolates tasted like soap
We ordered two candies which were loose. One was a coffee cream. The other was a cherry cluster. Both my husband and I agreed that both candies tasted like soap. We are wondering if someone sprayed soap on the candies or mixed soap with the chocolate.

Hopefully this is only an isolated problem.

Just plain mean.
Like other reviewers, I had driven by this place for years and was very excited to visit. I didn't last 30 seconds before what looked like the owner and another staff member harrassed and made fun of me for 'just looking around'. When I decided to leave, they laughed and sarcastically told me to hurry back real soon. I honestly was not in the store for an entire minute. It was a disturbing and uncomfortable experience to say the least.
