St. Peter's Chapel is famous for the 29 Stained Glass Windows. 25 are documented to be from Tiffany Studios of New York. The three seen from Walnut Ave were made by Ingerson and Glaser of San Francisco in 1906. The Chapel is a wooden structure built in 1901, and covered with cedar shingles.
When the MAre Island Historic Park Foundation took over from the Navy the Chapel was made available to the civilian world. Prior to 1996, only Military families could use the Chapel.

The great sounding pipe organ was installed in 1926, replacing a pump organ that was kept going by young men, paid 50 cents an hour. There are many historic plaques on the ceiling and on the walls.
