Last spring (2007) we hired MacRae Builders to do a medium size remodel of our central Berkeley home. Although almost every room in the house had something done to it, we continued to live in it during construction. To make matters more challenging, I was pregnant with our second child so we had to make sure the job, which was scheduled to take several months, would be done on time.

Starting with the bid process and continuing throughout the job, MacRae Builders were honest, accurate about expenses and timing, and did their best to be flexible with us. They did a wonderful job of blending the new construction with the house--the craftsmanship overall was great. We are so happy with our new and improved home. I would highly recommend them!

We recently added a third child to our family and as a result, needed to carve out an extra bedroom in our petite Berkeley home. With a rough idea for enclosing a small playroom, we found Mac Rae builders. Brian and Lilly Mac Rae are a dynamic team; Brian is the craftsman-builder and Lilly is the behind-the-scenes brains. Together they brought our ideas to life. We ended up with a magnificent partition wall/library/hallway and a small, but totally adequate bedroom with built-in shelving. Our fear was that the room would look like an after-thought, but Mac Rae made the end product look both beautiful and as if it had been there from the beginning. Mac Rae's subs made them shine. We had excellent experiences with the electrician and the painters - professional, detail-oriented, and tidy. Rates were what we expected; not cheap, but totally reasonable.
