Very unprofessional in treatment of patients. I went to him for eye examination and was kept waiting two hours in his office after which he saw me for about fifteen minutes. He told me I needed eye surgery at beginning of year but then proceeded to perform laser surgery on me at his office. I requested that he check with my insurance to see if it was covered as I made minimum wage and could not pay. He ignored my four times request after which I offered to come back. But he insisted, "I will do it now”. For seven seconds in each eye, he charged $2,200 each = $4400 besides other expense. The laser did not help my vision which is rather worse. The insurance was applied to my deductible in December with no coordination of pending January surgery/deductible. He has sent his claim to collectors.
I have since gone to Dr Shepherd who informed me that always he checks with insurance before treating any patient. He makes sure that the patient fully understands what he plans to do and if it is an emergency or not and if the deductible is paid. In other words, the patient is fully informed of all, including full out-of-pocket expense. To do otherwise is unprofessional.
