I left a cash deposit because the person at the Payless 800 number who booked the reservation said I would get the deposit back immediately upon returning the car. But the Payless employees at LAX would not return the cash deposit when I returned the car, although the car was in the same shape in which I rented it, and said I would receive the deposit in the mail two weeks later. It never came in the mail.
In May I reached someone at Fox, which I was told owned Payless, who said I would receive the deposit within two weeks. It never came.
Try calling the numbers listed on the LAX rental agreement or that Payless gives at their 800 number for LAX or the numbers listed at Google for LAX. Good luck trying to reach anyone. Think about that if you break down in one of their sub-par cars.
When I returned the car to the LAX location early in the morning, the shuttle bus took so long to come that I missed my flight. The person at the return center suggested I walk to another rental car agency to get a shuttle bus. I did so, but still missed my flight.
