One of the best dining experiences of my life
I recently had the pleasure of dining at La Provence, and it far exceeded my expectations. The service was impeccable, and the food was outstanding. The manager and chef both came out to greet us, and when my 9-month-old daughter became fussy (her schedule had been interrupted as we were from out-of-town), the staff went out of their way to accommodate us. They entertained her and walked around the restaurant, playing with her as if she were one of their own.

My husband ordered the filet of charolais beef, which was easily the best steak I've ever tasted. It was perfectly seasoned and melted in our mouths. I, meanwhile, ordered the trout in citrus brown butter sauce. I could taste every ingredient, and the fish was expertly prepared. We sampled three desserts on the chef's recommendation, our favorite being the bread pudding.

We have eaten at fine restaurants around the country, including other French inspired establishments such as Le Bernardin (NYC) and Le Bec Fin (Philadelphia), and of them all, La Provence was easily the best. The chef and waitstaff take such obvious pride in their food.

My only regret is that we ate there first when visiting New Orleans, because it set the bar so high that no other restaurant could come close to matching it for overall quality.

Still a favorite
What a great place for a special dinner!! The service and food was excellent. Chef Chris would be proud of the subtle changes and the continuing quality.

Bad food and worse service.
We had a table of 25 ranging in age from 1 to 101. It was the general opinion that the food was boring and the service unacceptable. There were a couple of items we ordered that were very good, but most were only acceptable. None that would make me want to return. There was one waiter that was rude, arrogant, and condescending. If the food had been compelling, I would still never return because of the waiter. At one point I had to tell him to go away because I wanted to look at the menu longer. The second waiter finally got the hint and took over all three tables. I do not recommend this restaurant.

Very Good Menu by Irene D. at InsiderPages
This is a place for a special occasion---it's rather expensive but lots of great food and super service------their menu has many things on it that you won't find at many restaurants--you can take your time to eat they don't rush you out---great wine list so if you have some extra cash and you want to eat well go here---they have plenty of parking and it's right on the hwy.190----you can make a reservation but most times you can get a table when you just walk in

PROS: Great Food
CONS: Little high in price

Best Restaurant in New Orleans
Best atmosphere and food that I've had in New Orleans - beats Commanders, Brennan's, Galatoire's, Mister B's, Clancy's, etc. The Chef/Owner is very friendly. Service was excellent. The only drawback - and it is a major drawback - is the location. It is on the wrong shore of Lake Ponchatrain. If you go, plan for a very long evening and have a designated driver.
