My young teenage son decided he wanted a guitar and I had no idea how to pick one out for his birthday. I happened to go into La Jolla Music and could not have been happier. They helped me pick what was perfect for him and have helped him, since, become a happy guitarist.

La Jolla Music, located at 7442 Girard Ave. in La Jolla is my kind of music store. You don't see too many harps or beautiful old instruments lounging around any music store these days. They certainly have a great variety of instruments there. The people working there are very friendly and knowledgable. I brought in my daughter's old clarinet to get re-corked and it was very painless. Brought it in, got a receipt, and it was ready to be picked on the day promised. When my daughter tried it out it worked perfectly well.
This store has been here for over a generation, it is well established and is situated in a very nice area of town. They have a very good selection of instruments that some other music stores just don't have and they also have on hand a good selection of sheet music. Overall I think that this is one of the better music stores around.

I like the store. The people who work there are nice and they always talk to me when I come in for lessons. I took lessons with Liz for awhile, but I didn't like it because she only wanted me to play from a book, whereas I would rather play pieces. I'd been playing piano on and off for 6 years, but with bad teachers, so this wasn't great for me. They do have a lot of sheet music for piano here. A lot of classical but also modern music and broadway which is nice.

La Jolla Music is the only place in San Dieog I know to get sheet music without using the internet! They have loads of genres and the people who work there are always there to give suggestions, quickly look things up for you, or even give you a music lesson! The teachers are great, and have all graduated from prestigious music schools such as Berklee College of Music, Northwestern, and many more.

There are two employies there that ruins the bunch. While the others are very nice, the two are cranky and rude. One lady is not helpful at all and does not like you touching anything, including the music sheets which you need to touch to pick out music. The other is a guitar teacher who is not patient with the students at all. The others are great but these two are the two pairs that ruin the whole store.
