Below is my initial review posted a while back. Since then, my family and I went back another time to give them a try and were very impressed. The food was much better and the service was excellent. <INITIAL REVIEW BELOW> This used to be one of the best mexican food restaurants in Nacogdoches but has gone down hill in the last year or two. The atmosphere is nice, but the food is only fair and the service is really bad. This judgement is not made from a single trip but from way more than 20 times my wife and I have dined at this restaurant. It used to be our favorite but then the service started getting really bad. Then the food went downhill as well. I have worked in the food industry for 15 years and was a server for 5.5 of those years. Therefore, when I say that you would be better off visiting the Jalapeno Tree (if you want a beer with your meal) or another mexican restaurant in town, I believe I know what I am talking about.‎

Good margarita, excellent spinach enchiladas & rice, chicken fajitas were great, and the Mexican butter sauce was a tasty addition on the combo fajita plate. ...

Salty as the dead sea... Ordered tacos al carbon for take-out and they had 1 strip of beef in each of the cold flour torts each....for $18 bucks. And the food was salty as heck. Skip this place.‎

LaCarreta is one of the best Mexican resturants in East Tx they have great food and drinks. I really like the atmosphere there, the music is nice and has hip crowds.

La Carreta has the best Mexican food and the best Sangria Margaritas in town! They also have a nice selection of seafood and snacks. The atmosphere is laid-back and somewhat quaint. Nothing fancy... so jeans and a tee shirt will do. Don't forget to try the free home-made hot sauce, chips, tortillas, sopapillas and ice cream!
