Another terrible nickel and dime property management.
When we moved from the last disaster rental we were so relieved to find Judy at La Belle who seemed so warm and sincere. Judy was very thorough and helped us out a lot in the beginning communicating with the owners, who also seemed a lot more helpful than the last. We really thought we had it made this time.
They said they would line the crappy dirt road with gravel to smooth it out, and that never happened. As a result, I had to REPLACE 2 tires in the 8 months we were living there, from nails and sharp objects that rustled to the surface. I know its not entirely their fault but it added insult to injury for me.
We ended up having issues with the neighbors who had 2 noisy dogs disrupting the peace at all hours of the night and day, mainly weekend mornings at 4 and 6am. Annoying! We tried talking to them, talking to property management, and after 4 months of nothing we filed a complaint with the city and told La Belle again. 2 months later we were up to our ears with it and we told them according to tenant laws we had the right to peaceful enjoyment and wanted to break our lease. At first Judy agreed.
Well then that caused all hell with the owners and the management and suddenly no one was very "nice" anymore. I have a feeling it was due to them having to scramble to find new renters in a down economy in El Cajon, and frankly they were charging too much for rent. 1850.
We spent 7 hours cleaning top to bottom like we were the damn Molly Maids before we moved out, and walked through it 100 times. It was in better condition than when we moved in. And we just got the news that they are trying to keep $800 from our $2500 deposit. Some examples of the petty things they are trying to charge us for include:
* Dust on the top of one blade of a ceiling fan (apparently took 1 hour of cleaning time according to itemization)
* Burn marks that were circled around the burner (which was under 2 metal pieces that covered it, and the iron stove top...and this is what happens when you actually USE a stove! Come on!) and dust/dirt that fell BEHIND the stove.
* A cracked cement panel in the back yard (in a house from the bleepin 50's!)
* Weeds left in the yard (the yard was full of weeds when we moved in...)
* Yellowing of the linoleum floor in the bathroom (again, in a house from the 50's! I'm sure they will claim us living there caused the flooring to yellow faster....)
* 3 tiny screw holes in the base of a window on the exterior of the house (they claim they had to replace the window for $500 due to "structural damage"...UNREAL!)
By law she is supposed to address us of our right in writing to do a walk through to inspect initial damage, which she never did. When we asked if we could walk through with her, she insisted that we didn't need to and it would make no difference what-so-ever. Thanks for taking that right away from us. Very Fishy.
So along with these photos was an itemized list from the owner detailing the additional 7 hours he spent repairing and cleaning all of this. What an absolute joke. This is the kind of stuff right here that gives property managements everywhere a bad rap. They make their money by thieving innocent and responsible renters of their deposits.
All of this for a house we only lived in for 8 months. Miserable and sleepless months at that. We expected a normal 100-150 to be taken out but not 800. That is just shady. And I would normally say that this was all the owners fault and not Labelle's, but we tried for weeks after to get someone to return a call or email from the management and they have ignored us like we never existed. We will be seeing them AND the owners in court.
