My wife and I are big fans of Kyoto Sushi. We live in Western Addition, and often used to go to Tsunami. Don't get me wrong - Tsunami is delicious. But it was WAY overpriced, and a little more of a "scene" than a comfortable, relaxing dining experience.

Kyoto is a great place to eat a lot of great sushi, drink a few beers, and relax. The staff are very friendly. The Giants / 49ers game is always on. There is no rush at all. And the sushi has never disappointed us (we've probably gone there 50 times in the last two years).

For sure not a date destination or anything like that. Just understated and unpretentious (as the other reviewer said) excellent sushi, great prices, and solid service. Highly recommended if you are hungry and want to enjoy a lot of sushi.

My friend and I had to buy $50 worth of sushi.

I've spent over $30 on sushi at other places just for myself before so I figured inviting one person to go with me to use a gift certificate at Kyoto would be no problem. In order to use the $25 gift certificate we had to spend $50 on food, the only problem is that I forgot how reasonable the sushi is here.

When I say reasonable I don't mean to imply that this is a discount place even though they have good prices and 99-cent sopporos, this is a quality sushi place with fair prices.

To get to that $50 nut I ordered the Sashimi combo for 2-3 people at $42, a fancy roll for $8.99, and I got a hand made lemonade for $2.50.

We were both absolutely full by the end of it. The Sashimi plate is probably enough for 3-4 people.

This is an unpretentious sushi place with friendly service. If you are one of those people that like to be overcharged and treated like trash this is not the place for you.

Next time I'm going with two other people.
