GREAT USED BOOK STORE up on the Ocean Park blvd island
You know book stores in general are so rare these days especially in LA , that when I came across Kulturas about two years ago up on Ocean Park Blvd. and 17th.st. I had to scratch my head and look around for the "store closing" signs . They opened about three years ago the owners told me after having moved the store from Wash. DC. Anyway I began my brouse and and after approx. two hours I had picked an arm load of titles I had coveted but refused to pay full "new" prices for: a couple of hardback Pynchons, a Rilke, a Gerhad Richter Retrospective catalogue, two Neruda titles, a Cormac McCarthy a nice hardbvack copy of "Infinite Jest" by David Wallace along with two or three titles on Buddhism. There was so much more that I wanted... but I have been back numerous times since then and the stock just seems to get better, not all high brow either ... they have kids titles, gardening, cook books, architeture, fashion...etc. My girlfriend picked up two Diane Arbus photography titles, a Bukowski, a spiffy cashmere sweater, and a cool skirt. OK , enough... its a great store... a real treasure house !! get there at all costs and check it out. cheers !!! P. PS Right up the street there is a cool cafe called Cafe Bolivar, good coffee and snacks before or after Kulturas. GREAT FINDS !!!!
