Total Disappointment on Custom Bridesmaids
For my September 2007 wedding, I decided to delegate the work of constructing my custom bridesmaids dresses to Katy Custom Bridal. I was in the midst of making my own wedding gown, and thought it best not to tackle too much.
I was rushed to provide deposits and measurements in order for Amy and Angelo to begin on their dresses. On my next visit, weeks later, they had not begun anything...due to some other big project they had going on. That would have been ok, if annoying, had the gowns turned out acceptably.
Of my four girls dresses they made, only my sister's turned out acceptably. I suspect this is because they actually took hers seriously, as it was the most challenging design. One girl had a weird hole above the top of the zipper because the gathers there came out. The bust on one girl's was just completely ill-fitting, and the last girl, who could have and would have been better off making her own, ended up altering her dress the night before my wedding to make it right.
It was incredibly fortunate that this last girl, my roommate at the time, was a talented patternmaker from the Houston Ballet. She was the only reason my bridesmaids looked acceptable on my wedding day. Together we ended up almost completely remaking/altering these dresses the week before the wedding.
It kills me that each girl paid ~$300 (they had quoted me "around $200-250") when I could have done better quality work for free.
I highly suggest you look into your other options for custom design in the metro Houston area. This was absolutely heartbreaking and a last-minute stress we did not deserve, as we planned sufficiently ahead.
