The Kansas City Barbeque is best known for being the location in Top Gun where Anthony Edwards "Goose" sings to Meg Ryan, Great Balls of Fire, also known as the sleazy bar scene. There was a time that the Kansas City Barbeque survived only on the movie geek crowd that had to see the location where Top Gun was filmed, as their food is only okay.

The food here is just okay, not my favorite barbeque joint in San Diego. The original restaurant/bar burned down a few years ago and they rebuilt, and I have not been there since it reopened.

It is really a no frills operation, more like a bar that serves barbeque. Not recommended for families.

Kansas City is an American City known for barbeque cuisine. This place lives up to that name. This would be the place to go for pork ribs when you are in Downtown San Diego. Kansas City Barbeque has excellent food, with good sized portions. They have reopened after a fire had closed this place for about three months. But they are back better than ever. The service is good, and the prices are really good for the quality of food they serve. Parking can be difficult, especially if there is something going on at Seaport Village or down on the Harbor. But if you go during the week, you should have no problem. This is a good place to take guest from out of town.
