Not Good
Started out great wht the Kaneyama roll then it all went down hill. Ordered a Spider roll and it was fake Krab - ugh. The Terriaki and Tempura was tasteless - definately not worth the money

Decent sushi, Below average entrees
Kaneyama is a nice place to quell that hankering for some sushi, but don't expect it to be up to the standards of Azuma or Musashino (Austinites know what I'm talking about). The fish is surprisingly fresh and tasty, but the sushi rice isn't up to par to help bring out the best flavor of the fish in the nigiri sushi. However, their rolls are pretty good and comparable to their prices. I suggest trying the Nemo roll and the Kaneyama roll.
As for the non-sushi entrees, I was surprised to be paying so much for such mediocre food. I had the chicken teriyaki bento box and was very disappointed. The chicken and rice were very dry and the vegetable tempura was.....ok....--it seemed like a dish you would get for $7 at a fast food japanese restaurant as opposed to $20. However, in the near future I would like to give their non-sushi entrees another try since they do have quite an extensive menu--maybe I will go with the more authentic dishes and report back

Good consistant food
We go to Kaneyama about twice a month for the past 6 or so years. We enjoy the food and most of the wait staff knows us. 29 out of 30 times the fish is great...occasionally the fish isn't the best and we leave it. The udon and rice bowls are great. The tempura banana with vanilla ice cream is very yummy, an occasional treat. We skip busy hours and opt for Sunday brunch usually, as service is much better. The times we have gone weekend evenings, the staff is very much over-whelmed and are not very attentive and the wait is quite long. I dont blame the staff though, that is a management decision.

YES!
i've been going to kaneyama for maybe about 3 years now. not very frequent but when we want sushi, this is the best place to go. we tried all the trendy places like RA and miyako which are over priced and not as fresh.

you can never go wrong ordering the kaneyama roll. that is by far, the best roll they have in my opinion. their salmon is always FRESH. its never fishy with a funky after taste. it is delicious. their rice is seasoned well and not tasteless, and the texture of the fish and rice is wonderful. they may be a little pricey, but i believe you're getting your moneys worth with great quality food.

the service however, is extremely slow. even on their slow nights, the food takes forever to come out sometimes. the servers there don't check the tables too often and it can get a little frustrating. usually the things my party and i order are raw which knocks off cooking time so i don't think it should take an extra 30 minute wait.
