Jyoti Bihanga Vegetarian Restaurant is a great place to eat. They have fantastically healthy food, and everything comes with their trademark mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy. They have a lot of unique vegetarian choices. My usual choice is the vegetarian BLT, but they have lots of other great veggie meat entrees, as well as some great salads and soups. The atmosphere is a little strange as all of the employees are members of a spiritual/religious group, but they are all really nice and they dont try to convert anyone. They are located on Adams Avenue in Normal Heights, right next to Lestats Coffee House. Check out Jyoti Bihanga for some great original food!

My cousin introduced me to this place, and I was hooked immediately. As mentioned in several other reviews, it is a small place run by disciples of some sect of Eastern/ Hindu type religion. They have pamphlets and books around you can buy, but I have been there numerous times and no one has ever tried to get me to read anything or even talked about it unless I asked. There is a constantly rotating menu of delicious foods with all different culture flairs, with a few staples such as the "Neatloaf," which I have had meatloaf loving friends swear by. All in all a very relaxing experience. The servers are very friendly and accommodating, and I have even had the chef come out and make sure I liked everything. I have not been disappointed with the food here yet, and would highly recommend it to anyone who is vegetarian, anyone who is exploring vegetarian options, or anyone who just wants to try something new!

We love this place. The food is good, the evironment is peaceful and the employees are friendly. I don't really understand the religion but then I don't have to... They are peaceful and don't push it too hard. 5 stars!

This is my favorite restaurant in San Diego. Granted I am a vegetarian and so am biased towards any vegetarian restaurants in town but I have never had a bad meal at Jyotis and I've been going there for several years. Jyotis does every type of cuisine well - Indian, Thai, Mexican and yes, even American staples like meatloaf (theirs is called "neatloaf") and burgers. The quality of ingredients is very high - jyotis buys organic and locally whenever possible. I have never been to this place when it wasn't full of customers enjoying the bliss of healthy and delicious food - who knew vegetarian food could be so diverse. Their success comes down to a simple philosophy - care in the preparation of the food and care of the customers. I hear all cooks engage in meditation before preparing any food and it shows. You can taste the energy and love in the food! How many restaurants have you left feeling both satisfied and nourished?
