Fair at best, with a little attitude
We arrived on a Sunday morning around 11:30 for a late breakfast (they don?t serve lunch on Sunday). There was a lot of confusion at the hostess stand if there was actually a table available. Turns out there was going to be a wait, but the catch is?.there were several open tables. We waited. However, a local couple arrives, speaks to the owner and is promptly seated ahead of everyone else that is waiting. Seems if you are one of the local aristocrat regulars the owner of Joseph?s will seat you right away, the rest the tourist and paying customers that keep her afloat shall wait! As it turns out, the kitchen was way behind, so the average Joe waited. The breakfast was acceptable. Nothing to write home about, and in a town like Charleston you can do better. There is a wonderful bed and breakfast just around the corner that has a very nice brunch. It will be more expensive but a much more pleasant experience. Joseph?s was not terrible, and they did have two gentlemen playing music that was relaxing and enjoyable. Joseph?s It is fine if you can?t find anything else, but in Charleston, I assure you?.you can find something else.

great food great price
I love the food here. I like their Dr. No Carb salad--steak salad with peppercorn sauce. and their sandwish that has the steak filet on a cresent roll. They give u a lot of food, and it all tastes good. It has a very relaxed atmosphere, and it's a good place to bring children.

Can You Say Overated?
Unfortunately, no matter how many times I try, I just can't find a way to like Joseph's. From the slightly too "hole in the wall" atmosphere, the service attitude straight out of a NY truck stop and the inconsistent food quality, it all adds up to a lot of more misses.

And ...what's the deal with the breakfast to lunch closing time that is always 15 minutes sooner than what is posted on the door and the overly excited "we're closed" comments that waft out to the street as soon as the door opens.

In fairness, I have only been to Joseph's for breakfast. The huge pancakes are usually very good with a half order more than sufficient. The benedicts and breakfast potatoes are generally tasty, although inconsistently executed (eggs undercooked one day and then hard as stones the next). The omelettes are not as good as I make at home, which is normally a clue that I won't be coming back. My last visit included toast which could have been made days ago and one piece being the butt-end of the loaf (normally reserved for feeding a migratory bird population, not paying customers).

I sincerely hope these folks get back on their game. The choices for breakfast in Charleston are slim at best and Joseph's used to be provide a great option. Unfortunately it seems they are now ready to rest on their laurels and slop it out for the never ending parade of tourists.

Sweet Potato Pancakes
My husband and I ate breakfast at Joseph's while celebrating our 5th anniversary. We had to wait outside for a table, but not too long. We enjoyed watching people. I ordered the sweet potato pancakes with a side of bacon. My husband ordered the classic breakfast with two eggs, grits, bacon and toast. He enjoyed every bit. The sweet potato pancakes were really delicious (especially since it was fall of the year). The only thing I found strange was my toasted pecan butter. There were chives in it! I don't know how they got there, but I ate it anyway. I did find myself adding a little syrup to them, the butter wasn't enough alone. Overall, a great little restaurant for breakfast, but I would not recommend the coffee. It tasted like cheap Foldgers or Maxwell House coffee.

Great cafe experience!
I moved to Charleston for the summer to work and this is the perfect place to go to lunch! It is obvious the restaurant is family-owned and the food was great! They offer healthy food and food to indulge in. I recommend crab cakes for an appetizer and the salads and turkey sandwiches are great!
