Felt like the most important people there!
My husband, 3 year old daughter, and 1 year old daughter ate at Hyman's for the first time today after 7 years of visiting Charleston annually.
We've been missing out!
First of all- we had read about the lines and Hyman's own website advises to come early or late to avoid the wait :) We arrived at quarter to 11 for lunch mid-week and there wasn't a soul waiting. We took the time to look through the General Store (nothing particularly special there- but a good way to pass the time and entertain the kids). The woman working in the General Store was sociable and helpful.
As soon as the restaurant opened we were immediately seated in a great location and even given a convenient place to store our 2 seat stroller.
We had our coupon for our free crab dip- the dip was small, but hey- it was free! The waitress was very helpful and quick to respond to our needs. We asked for extra crackers for our baby to snack on and the waitress quickly brought us some. My drink was 3/4 empty and the waitress replaced it.
I had fried oysters, mahi-mahi with light cajun seasoning, and calamari with cajun mayo. My husband had buffalo shrimp, mahi-mahi with cajun seasoning, and crab cakes. We both thought everything was superb. The kids had a PB&J and a grilled cheese and both had macaroni and cheese for their sides. The mac & cheese was homemade just like my mom used to make- I ate most of my 1 year old's because it was so good!!! They both seemed to like their meals and they were quite large considering the very moderate price for what kid's meals go for these days.
Eli Hyman took the time to come by our table to thank us for coming in and make sure everything was to our liking.
Later he sought out my 3 year old to give her a coupon for a free ice-cream from the general store (and a second one for the baby).
Bottom line- food was fabulous, customer service was fabulous, we were treated just like the VIPs who have been there before us. We'll be back!
