Best Bread Ever by Reina G. at InsiderPages
House of Bread is the best homemade bread ever at a commercial level. Great artistry and health consciousness has gone into the recipies that are the Hallmark of their craft. The Darwin Bread full of sprouts and whole grains is guiltless because of it's whole grain construction. They serve an apple cinnamon bread that is virtually lumpy with whole pieces of apples. The Pumpkin and the Carrot breads leave my husband helpless.
This great family owned company serves up samples with real butter, a smile and a welcome that is tough to resist. They even offer a 'baker's dozen'... a small punch card that gives you your 13 loaf free. They serve sandwiches and do custom bakings for large orders.
The average price is about $4 a loaf, but there contain such good ingredients, one slice literally fills you up with wholesome calories. I actually save money because my teens are full after one sandwich or piece of toast, instead of having to eat 3 or 4 sandwiches made of commercially processed breads.
Breads are sliced and rebagged in the store at customer request. The offer holiday breads such as Challah. Dieters will find low carb, and they even have a whole oat bread for those who cannot eat wheat products.
They have a day-old bread rack that sells out quickly, but you can pick up loaves for $1-$2 each if you get in early. You can also pre-order for holiday or special events.
PROS: Healthy, delicious and located conveniently in the Viliage Shopping Center.
CONS: Certain specialty breads are only available on certain days.
