I have quite a few animals... and I buy all my supplies from Hoffers. My kids love seeing all the animals and feeding the tortoises every time we come.

I enjoy going to Hoffers! They have friendly workers, a great selection of animals, and most of the time the workers can give you pretty good care tips!! The cages are clean, the animals are happy, and the customers like me are pleased!

I got two gerblis there 4 years ago. One lived to be 2 and the other 3. When I first got there, I asked where they kept the rodents and woman pointed over to the fish and returned to her phone conversation. So I finally found them and peered into the cage. There had to have been 10 gerbils packed in there and it wasn't very big. I picked out the two cutest ones and got a different woman to help. The woman reached in a hulled the tan one by its tail. I swear the gerbil spueeked and it wasn't a happy squeal. The other one was taken out the same way. So the servise was terrible but the pets were not sick.

I have been to this store several times, nice layout. However they have THE absolute poorest care of any reptiles I have ever purchased from a pet store. The reptile staff is rude and unwilling to provide their sick animals with proper care, and it isn't limited to just a few animals. After the repeated vet bills from my purchase at Hoffers to cure a sick animal, I will never buy from them again. While visiting other Milwaukee pet stores I found out they have an established reputation for poor care of reptiles. I highly recommend you keep walking instead of buying from Hoffers Tropic life in their reptile department. Evidently the owner has made some poor choices for management of their reptile department. Recently while in Milwaukee I found good healthy animals at another pet store, and was glad to spend the $450.00 elsewhere. I give Hoffer's Tropic Life a big thumbs down, but its your money, don't be fooled by the store. Stupidity reigns supreme in their reptile department. I have over 40 years experience raising healthy reptiles.

When I decided to enter the land the herps (reptiles) I had a ton of questions and needed someone to hold my hand through the process of getting my pet's home ready. I walked around the store for about 10 minutes with no one as much as saying hi. But then, Eric came out from the back reptile room, asking if I needed any help. SO HAPPY he saw me. From that point on, I was in experienced hands from someone who knew more about herps than some experts do. I found their prices to be average, sometimes lower, sometimes higher. The selection was good. I was able to buy everything I needed, minus the plant, to set my cage up. But what takes the cake are their animals. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend Hoffers because their pets are well cared for by knowledgable staff. My chameleon is happy, healthy, and is thriving in his new home. So when you go there, don't be afraid to seek out someone to help you if they don't find you first. It'll be well worth it.
