This is probably my favorite movie theater in all of San Diego. They have a great selection of vintage, independent, and limited release films showing all the time, and there is really a great atmosphere. It is definitely a cut above the usual suburban movie theaters in the San Diego area. Ticket prices are very reasonable, particularly earlier in the day, and service is excellent. Seating is also great, since the smaller than usual theaters afford a more intimate experience than being in a sea of people at AMC. It is conveniently located in Hillcrest near a gym and a restaurant.

I like this movie theater a lot. I go here whenever I can afford a movie. They ticket prices are not the best but the theater, environment, and the people are great. You do not get to many punk kids in the theater just making out and causing ruckus. This is a good theater for action movies because they have a great sound system and screen is very bright, almost a little too bright for the chick flick, drama, and sissy movies. This is a classy movie theater to take a date because it is in a nice area not somewhere with discount tickets and gang activity. I recommend this place. Two thumbs up.

This is the only cinema located in Hillcrest and has the distinction of being one of the few venues that shows good recent release independent flicks. What makes this place special is the convenient location (on the University Avenue exit off the CA163 Freeway), the accessible validated parking and the reasonable price per movie ($9.50 in lieu of $10.50 at other theater chains). If you are ever in the neighborhood, take this place for a spin.

I'm a fan of independent movies. Hillcrest Cinema 5 is one of the few places i can go in San Diego to catch some of my favorite movies. i was absolutely stoked that my grandparents baught me a book of tickets for landmark theaters! a normal movie ticket is 10.50 for an adult. my GParents payed 165 for a book of 25 unrestricted tickets! thats about 7 bucks a ticket! horay the price i was paying about 9 years ago! I went to the concession stand and i was surprised by the wide variety of snacks and drinks they offer. they even make cafe drinks and Italian sodas! i went on a really busy night and the staff worked really well as a team to get the customers out of line and into their movie with all the refreshments they can afford. on my way out i made small talk with a door person that was really enthusiastic about Independent and Mainstream films and i was happy to see that amongst the chaos of a busy Saturday afternoon the staff is still able to keep a sunny disposition.
