great neighborhood market
I've asked the store to get Everett's smoked trout several times, but they don't. I wish they would listen to reasonable requests better. They carry other Everetts smoked fish so adding trout shouldn't be a problem, should it?

<b> Overall:</b> There are in fact two Cooper's Super Valu stores on 7th Street in St. Paul. One in the 2400 block (Sibley Plaza), the other in the 600 block just northeast of St. Clair Ave.<br /><br /><b>Value:</b> Alas, Cooper's can compete with the likes of Rainbow or Cub anymore. They just don't move enough customers through their stores to make lower prices work for them. I still read their weekly ad for the occasional "deal."<br /><br /><b>Service:</b> The employees are generally friendly although sometimes not the most helpful. Both Cooper's stores make a real effort to hire from their respective neighborhoods. That helps foster a sense of loyalty in the community for Cooper's.<br /><br /><b>Quality:</b> Cooper's still maintains real meat departments and matches the quality of their competitors, in fact, better than Cub, I think. The Sibley Plaza location even sells kosher meat in response to the demographics of lower Highland Park.<br />
Produce quality is sometimes weak. Cooper's carries Schroeder dairy products which can be a bit pricey. Same goes for grocery items.<br />
Variety doesn't begin to match what you can find at, say, Rainbow.<br />
Pros: Convenience if you live near one of their stores. There stores make an effort to serve their neighborhoods in terms of what they sell and whom they employ.
Cons: Both Cooper's locations on 7th Street often appear dirty, especially the older market closer to downtown.<br /> Limited selection in many areas.

Hard to find items by Debra B. at InsiderPages
They actually have brands that I can't find at Cub foods in Bloomington---for instance, I had a hard time finding the Organic Rasberry Salad Dressing and this super chocolate bar that's associated with the fair trade act...(can't remember the brand names right now, but I know them when I see the labels Debbie B

Small Store - old fashioned service by Liz P. at InsiderPages
Cooper's Supervalu isn't noted for a large assortment of brands or the best produce or meat counter around. But they do have wonderful staff who have been well trained in customer service and show it every day. Good place for non-perishables, I'd go elsewhere for my meat and produce.

Cooper's Supervalu on 7th St. in St. Paul is like one of the grocery stores you remember from when you were growing up. It's doesn't carry every brand of every kind of canned vegetable that is available but rather carries 2 or 3 - a generic and then a leading national brand or 2. You can still get meat cut the way you want it at the meat counter. Produce is kept neat and clean and you won't find any overripe fruit anywhere in the display. Friendly checkouts where they actually call you by name if you're a frequent shopper! Want a stress-free grocery experience - try Coopers!
