Gold Coast Audiology is a business I have had the misfortune of having to deal with for numerous years. Formally owned and operated by Ron Magnusson, Gold Coast Audiology has consistantly given me the impression that they are much more concerned with profits than they are with their clients. To their credit, when they were Gold Coast it was not difficult to get an appointment there, often times on the same day you called. Today as HearX you will more than likely have to wait 3 weeks to be seen by a staff that is rude and unhelpful. I get the same sense that HearX is more concerned with sales and profit margins as was Gold Coast. Another audiologist recently told me that for my needs analog hearing aids are often preferred by people with a hearing loss of my severity. I mentioned this to the audiologist at HearX (Gold Coast), and was promptly told that 90 percent of all hearing aids made today are digital and that the digital aids can actually be programmed to function more like analog models. Translated into English what this means is that, "HearX would prefer to sell you a much more expensive hearing aid (digital) and then manipulate it to resemble a device you could have aquired for thousands of dollar's less). There was an audiologist back in the 80-90's named Jeffrey Reed who was an amazing audiologist. He definitely worked hard to make sure his clients were satisfied with the hearing aids he provided them with. It is extremely unfortunate to me that in this day and age it appears as if all the former small office audiologist are being bought out by big corporations who know little of providing the kind of services and professionalism this industry is now sorely lacking. If you have any option to not go to Gold Coast, I would highly support you in that decision. Unfortunately for me, I am stuck having to go there because of financial considerations.
