Suport Old School Local Pet Shop
I love this little local spot. It's owner operated and has been in the area for years. I believe the current owners took it over from the wife's father. Anyway, I have a 120lb. rottweiler that can be intimidating and they handle him with love and respect :) I also have a senior dog who has always hated going to the groomers but doesn't seem to mind going to Hal's. The owners are very nice, honest, hard working and knowledgeable. I am very happy to patronize Hal's and to support small businesses in my area.

great longstanding neighborhood pet shop
I've taken my dogs to Hal's for grooming for years, and always gotten great treatment. Previously I had one dog that was very dog-agressive and another that was very skittish, and they came back looking beautiful. Currently I have a big goofy Lab who grabs whatever he can get his mouth on in the store, and they treat him like an old friend. My newest pup gets a summer cut there that requires them to almost completely shave a strong, wiggly Spaniel, and he comes home looking like a champ. I just wish they carried frozen bones. I have to go elsewhere for those, but for everything else, I try to support Hal's.

I was rejected
I am a 3-yr old Shih Tzu that was recently adopted. My new parents are so sweet they want to treat me for a complete grooming. So I was taken to the closest one in our neighborhood called "Hals". I must admit, I am not very good with people, I came from a home where I was never walked or exposed to outside world. But with enough time and training I will be great, I have improved in the past weeks and my new parents are trying very hard to make me better. So off we went to Hal's and there was the man who took me in, he doesn't seem to have much experience with dogs, he's not the groomer. I barked and growled at him, mainly because I am a dog and I'm not fully trained like I mentioned. He then decided that I cannot be handled so he phones my family and rudely says "take your dog back, we can't do anything with her! you should take her back where she used to be groomed!!". Bottom line is, if you're not a mellow dog don't go there. The man was horrid. How can he be working for a pet shop when he doesn't know how to handle animals?

Hard to find, but well worth the trip. Your pets will thank you!
I've been going to Hal's for over 15 years, maybe even 20, I think. I used to live and work nearby, and it was convenient. The staff are so animal loving and such good people. I then moved out of the area and have relied on Petco and other pet "stores" for my pet product and care needs. A few years ago I adopted a few birds which soon became about 20 finches and parakeets. As time grew I needed regular nail clipping for some of the more exotic finches. I checked all over. Prices ranged from $27 -$40 each bird, each visit. I suddenly remembered Hal's. It was probably my first visit back in 10 years or so. I was charged only $4 per bird....And they recognized me and remembered my old dog who lived to 26 years, human time. They were as friendly and as compassionate as I had remembered. Even though they are no longer near my home, I make a trip out to Eagle Rock about once a month to pick up some seed, get a few birds nails clipped, or sometimes just to get the new dogs some treats. You cannot help but walk out of Hal's with a big smile on your face. Just knowing there are still some genuine "Mom and Pop" businesses out there that love what they are doing, charge a more than fair price for product and services....well, it makes ya feel good.

Your pet store quickstop
I bought parakeets and a bird cage from Hal's pet shop. The birds are really healthy! I had one of them for 7 years before he died. And that bird didn't even die from natural causes! So the animals are nice and healthy and worth being owned by a good loving master. They also have food and many accesories. They dont have such a big collection on animals. But all of them looked to be in good condition and not mis-treated. The staff is also knowledgable when it comes to any questions pertaining to your animal. Keep your eyes open for it though its really small. Right next to Am/Pm
