We stopped in for some coffee and pastry one morning on the bf way to work ( I was just out for a ride) we stopped in had some great coffee and pastry. I had the chocolate filled croissant very tasty.

This is a great morning ritual. Grand Centra has a lot of good choices and genarally, you get served fast. I think they're egg & toast is good... more breakfasty choice. The jammer and cinnamon rolls are the highlight, yet not so sweet that you feel you're having desert for breakfast.

And most of us are grumpy in the morning, so the friendly staff and stumptown coffee make for a good transition.

The Grand Central Bakery and Cafe has some of Portland best and freshest bread. The variety is amazing. The texture is wonderful. The smell and presentation is also inviting.

Saturday morning at 9am, you expect pretty good food and service at a bakery that does breakfast. Nope. It is a holiday weekend, but still. I ordered the Bacon Egg Bolo on a croissant. I got way over-cooked bacon -- pretty much inedible -- more like bacon-flavored chip board -- on a dried up croissant with unappetizing egg. Couldn't really eat it. And the counter service was not good. And though it had stopped raining, no one had bothered to wipe down the outdoor furniture, even though the place wasn't very busy. So we had to sit indoors where it was kind of warm and muggy. And full of those little floaty flies that hang in the air in Portland. Yuck!!
