I took my 2000 Nissan Frontier in on Friday before new years. There was a rasping noise that only happened during acceleration. It was a cold morning and the noise was minimal. I also needed it looked over to see what maintenance related repairs it may be needing. The service manager was very nice and called me, suggested I change the plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. The rasping noise was from a heat shield vibrating against the exhaust. I agreed to have this work done and went to pick it up that afternoon.

When I arrived, the truck was making a new noise. This time it was a patterned tapping sound. The mechanic told me it was an exhaust leak from a bold that was missing from the manifold. He told me he had heard it since he started working on it. since this noise happened when the engine was idling, I know it was new. The service manager agreed with me and they agreed to work out a deal for me since it happened on their watch. At this point I was reluctant and wondered it I had been had. I dropped by another place that verified the bolt was missing and that was what caused the noise.
Choice repaired the bolt faster than they expected and adjusted the price according. Now the truck sounds great. I'm pleased. I will most likely return for future work, although as a warning, their hourly rate is higher than some.
