Goodwill Industries
Don't come here looking for Prada: Gap and Express are the high end here. Prices start at a mere $4.49 for women's blouses and $16.99 for men's suits. Some locations also carry ...

seek hard and you may find by BELINDA M. at InsiderPages
There's a lot of junk in here, though on homewares and shoes it can be good. It may be the location, but I always get the sense that the good stuff is gone.

PROS: located close to chelsea flea market - hit two birds with one stone!
CONS: layout could be much more attractive

ok thrift store by K O. at InsiderPages
This store is ok. The stuff is mostly normal Goodwill prices, but the dresses always seem really overpriced. They have a decent amount of clothing and a big wall of shoes over on the right in the back. As far as I know, there isn't a dressing room, which is always a drawback. You have to check your bags, but the workers aren't always that helpful in terms of helping you do that, so I usually end up carrying mine or waiting a long time while other people get rung up, hoping someone will notice me and take my bags. They have a lot of random non-used stuff on the several rows of shelves in the back--kind of dollar-store stuff more than thrift store stuff. Overall I don't think it's a great store, but it's in an area with a real lot of thrift stores, and it is worth stopping by because you never know when you will find something you like.

not the best Goodwill by Dan S. at InsiderPages
I'm from Connecticut, where I frequent several Goodwills, and this one, which I visited on a recent trip to New York, is not as good as many that I've been to. However, it is worth taking a look at because, of course, you never know what you'll find at any thrift store. It is pretty big (especially for something in the middle of a normal NYC block) and has the normal array of Goodwill clothing, including a whole wall of shoes. In the housewares and toys section, they always seem to have a bunch of random new stuff that got donated from somewhere other than individual people. They once had a whole lot of Slip'n'Slides. I don't remember there being much furniture, but there might be a section for it over on the left in the back.
