While vacationing in San Francisco, we rented a Go Car from their Union Square location. I knew we were in trouble, when the couple just before us couldn't get their car started, and had to be given an alternate car. On our car, the much touted GPS and audio tour NEVER WORKED. We kept driving around, and ended up at their Fisherman's Wharf location. They had a guy "fix" the problem. This lasted all of 5 minutes, but didn't want to waste any more of our day so kept driving around in it. It has no cushioning or springs, so is a VERY bumpy ride, and not for anyone older than 40 years. When we complained when we returned the vehicle, , they said that it was a reasonable rental like any other rental car. We pointed out that this is NOT a normal rental car, that it is being marketed for it's GPS and audio tour, which never worked!! And why would we pay that much for a small, uncomfortable, open air vehicle?! They would only give us a 1 hour credit and a 10% off gift certificate for our next rental!!! In looking at their set-up, and seeing what's happening at their garage, it's obvious that they are having lots of problems with their GPS/Audio Tour system in the cars. Interesting, I thought it was a good idea when I made reservations b/c there was an excellent review of it in TripAdvisor, posted 2 years before when they just started business. When we got back to the hotel, I wrote a very unflattering review of the Go Car in TripAdvisor. TripAdvisor rejected the review saying that they don't take reviews for car rentals. What a crock! Why then was there a very favorable review of the Go Car in TripAdvsior? When I emailed my question, they never responded, and only deleted the favorable review of 2 years before. So Go Car got the benefit of 2 whole year's of the favorable review being read by potential customers on Trip Advisor. I used to think Trip Advisor was objective, but now I think that they may be paid by some of the places that are being reviewed.
