Avoid like the plague for anything other than shots...
As far as I am concerned, Dr. Gilley ki!!ed my dog. I've lived in Homestead my whole life. Every animal I'd ever had since I was little has gone to Dr. Gilley. He USED to be a terrific vet - very inexpensive. When Homestead's population exploded about 5 years ago, his clinic became swamped. They don't take appointments - walk-ins only - so it takes literally about 8 hours to get seen, and sometimes you don't even get to speak to him.
I stopped seeing him when the incident I'm referring to happened. Our first boxer, Zeta (an anniversary present for my husband), was like a child to us. Right after her 2-year birthday she began throwing up all her food, so we brought her to Dr. Gilley. He looked her over (didn't run ANY tests) and sent her home with some pills for indigestion. She not only continued v0miting food, but she also began v0miting bright yellow bile, so we took her back. Another 6 hours, another pill. She then began losing control of her bladdar, whereas she'd always been crate-trained before, so we took her back. This time some pill to treat incontinence. Again, NO TESTS PERFORMED. She then began having seizures, so I took a day off of work and brought her in, thinking I'd be seen quickly due to the obvious urgency of the situation. I sat in the clinic for 4 hours waiting to be seen while my dog had seizures on the floor. I finally walked up to the counter and DEMANDED she be taken in, so they did. A few hours later, Gilley calls saying he is going to run bloodwork but that it will take 24 hours to receive the results, so I took her home and stayed with her. The next morning, he told me she was in acute renal (kidney) failure and that I needed to rush her to an emergency clinic IMMEDIATELY. So, I took another day off of work and ran her to MVS in Miami, where I spent $2400 to have her kept on fluids and for them to monitor and treat her. She died 4 days later. Had he run tests earlier, she may have lived. If you love your pets, AVOID Gilley's.
