An excellant choice‎
We found out about Garden Oaks from the Funeral Consumers Alliance of Houston, which is a truly wonderful nonprofit run by volunteers from the Unitarian church on Wirt. The FCA surveys funeral homes for their prices, since the price charged by funeral homes varies WIDELY, and few people are in a state of mind to "shop around" at such a grief-ridden time. They also have resources for advance planning, links for organ donation, and other considerations. http://www.funeralconsumershouston.org/ We used Garden Oaks to cremate my mother and my aunt, and we're returning today to make plans for my uncle who just passed away. They are very matter-of-fact, not big into the condolence business, which was fine with us - but I have found the owner, Charles, respectful and helpful. We were not interested in a service provided by them, since we have our own church. They have been expert in providing the service we needed, and with quiet reserve. Some people take it as a point of pride ...

No the Place to rest after reading these...‎
I am searching for a place for my self and my family members. I love the fact that people can express their personal experiences on here just to make me aware of the possibilities, although I know it can be different for the next person. It leaves me to wounder what should I expect of these people if I visit and in the future for my family at there times of bereavement. Thank you all for your honesty and experiences. Rude, insensitive behavior!‎
I attended a funeral for a young Indian woman yesterday (8/18/09) at the Garden Oaks Funeral Home. It was so well attended that it was necessary to provide more seating. While the service was going on, during prayers in fact, the director IN FULL VOICE, was directing his employees who were noisily banging chairs around while setting up more seating for a full 5 minutes. It was very disruptive, insensitive, and rude behavior to say the least!‎

Garden Oaks attitude towards people in an...‎
I will keep it brief. Needed help and information regarding a cremation initiated in another city but given to Garden Oaks to handle because the patient was transferred to Houston for her last days with her sister. Her husband is not signing the transfer of the ashes to her sister so we can pick them up. Spoke with Charles at the funeral home and in the explanation of the situation he rudely made the statment "if you quit talking I will try to explain" his attitude to say the least very tart. I am trying to give him the details and he interrupts with a very rude comment. I would not use their services under any conditions if not for this unplanned failure of her husband to sign over the ashes to her sister. People seeking help with the loss of a loved one do not need told to shut up so they can talk....they need to listen.‎
