Franklins is good food and friendly service, but they also surprised me with some good BBQ. I normally don't order BBQ at non BBQ specialty places, too often it is just some old pork stewing in a bland sauce, but I tried some of Franklin's BBQ on a whim and it is very good. Not Memphis good, but very good. They have two sauces, a red thick general sauce and a Carolina style vinegar sauce and both are good. I had always had their other entrees in the past, but now I can add Franklins to my area list for good BBQ as well.

Food isn't that great, but, it is a fun place to hang out with friends. I love going to the general store after a meal at this place. The menu should focus only on burgers, chicken sandwiches, and pizzas--not Shepard's Pie, Chicken Potpie or any other fake Thai dishes.

The chicken pot pie is like eating a whole can of Iodine salt!

Start with the excellent beers brewed on site, add a varied menu with some stand out dishes tha twill satisfy appetites ranging from the complex to the basic, throw in a general store attached that will keep kids (and their parents) occupied for hours, and you've got worthwhile destination just a few miles beyond the District line. Just start driving out Rhode Island Ave. toward the northeast and don't stop. You can't miss it after the hair pin curve.

Not too bad. i remember this place when it wa just a general store. now its a bustling bar and grill type that also has a good family atmosphere. id recomend it

Franklins brewery serves up cheap brew at good prices. Most of their restaurant fare is good: stick with burgers and pizza, the salads and quesadillas if you want to go home satisfied. Stay away from the bland portabella mushroom sandwich and the overly garlicky shepherd's pie. Good value for your money, great value for happy hour.
