Had a Great Experience Here; I'd Go Back!
I wanted to sell some coins and some silver bullion that I had bought in the mid-80s.

I was somewhat confused by the previous reviews, which were quite polarized; reviewers seemed to have had either excellent or terrible experiences there. I checked the Yellow Pages, and saw that the shop was the only one in the greater Sacramento area displaying both ANA and PCGS certifications in their ad. I decided to check it out. If it had a good vibe, then great. If not, I was willing to drive to shops in the San Francisco Bay area. I'm glad I stopped in; my experience was Excellent!

I was greeted by the lady of the couple who own shop, who was professional and courteous. When I explained why I was there, she called the man, Dave out from the back.

Doing business with Dave was just super. He was very knowledgeable and I enjoyed talking with him. We discussed my coins, and he showed me how he arrived at an offer price. He double-checked the closing price for silver and raised his offer on my bullion as a result.

Although I am by no means a coin trader, I do have experience in some other types of investments, some of it quite substantial. I did research on coins for about a week before I went into Excelsior. I'm totally convinced that I was treated professionally and received a fair offer (which I accepted)!

And, as you see, I am happy to recommend the shop to you and to everyone else!

Worst Customer Service of ANY Store in Sacramento
I have lived in Sacramento my entire life and have NEVER experienced such a poor display of common courtesy, let alone customer service, as I did from the man and wife owners of this store. Absolutely Awful. I should have known something was wrong with the attitude of the wife on the phone.
Turned around and walked out with my current and ALL FUTURE business. I just cannot stomach giving my business to any merchant acting like they are doing ME a favor by allowing me to give them my patronage. How they have stayed in business this long is likely a result of them being the ONLY store of its kind in the area. That kind of arrogance has a way of coming up and biting.

Best coin and bullion dealer anywhere
I have traded hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of precious metal bullion and coins from all the major on line players (Kitco, Fidelitrade, Monex UGH!, Tulving, APMEX, etc.) and Dave at Excelsior beats them all. His premiums are lower, his service is far better then any of the other guys, and he has been in the same location for many years so you know he won't run off with your stuff. Of course he is smaller then some of the really big companies listed above, but he gets the job done for less then they charge, and you don't have to mess with shipping.

In addition, Dave will walk you through the process of buying and selling coins and bullion which takes a huge amount of stress out of the deal, especially for first time traders.

I can't say enough good things about Excelsior, they are the best.

Pros: Best deal anywhere that I have found, honest, reliable and stable
Cons: A little smaller then some of the online dealers so he doesn't have as much in stock.

Genuine, friendly, with generous knowledge
People are entitled to their opinions, but after visiting Excelsior Coin Gallery, something of a local landmark on Arden, which was established in 1984 - information I was provided by the friendly and knowledgeable owner - I was left with nothing but a positive impression. An owner run business is too rare these days, in our world of Wal-Mart visioned stores, and I was pleased to wait in line and watch the varied clintele spend some time with the co-owners, whom they addressed directly, sensitively, accurately and with good information. It was clear that they both had repore with the customers, with the husband of the couple admittedly having more in the way of sparkle, for my particular way of seeing things. Perhaps women would see the couple differently. Indeed, I found myself commenting to the owner, quite without resistance, that he seemed a "nice" person, a comment I offered in response to hearing that he had been stolen from via a fake cashier's check. It was something like, "how can someone think to do that to such a nice person; now if you were a swindling hood..." So, you can see that the environment was healthy and positive, and I felt as though I was spending time with a business I would like to frequent for many years to come. I hope this older couple endeavors in their line of work for many more years.

unknowledgable
I would like to comment because of the last comment to verify that I had the same experience with the grumpy old lady. I called the shop a couple of times and got the same response, a cold unknowlegable grumpy woman that seemed to be put out by any inquiries.
There is another seller in this area a man I spoke to while doing a search in the same area, very friendly, knowlegable, and seemed to go out of his way to help you, but through internet search I lost him before I was able to see him. With gold and silver prices going up until who knows when, I would not recommend this store unless you know exactly what you want, and spot prices which they may..or may not have..but wouldn't be able to tell you..ha ha
