a very nice studio by susan l. at InsiderPages
Ev-leen's is a very good place to learn dance. The studio is very nice. Some people complain about not being able to watch their kids, but there are windows that the parents can see in but the kids can't see the parents. I have been dancing for many years, have been exposed to many studios etc. When the parents are not in the same room the kids usually do alot better and pay better attention. The parents are totally allowed to stay in the studio, but up in the front waiting area and not in the classroom area. The idea is for the child to learn dance, after all, not for the parents to hover. Ev-leen is very good with the children. I think she has an extensive education in dance and teaching but I have seen parents argue about the silliest things. Correction is part of learning dance.
Anyway, this is one of the best studios I have been to and my daughter (5 years old) loves it. Having a dance background myself, I would only trust someone who teaches proper technique to my child and my daughter gets that at Ev-leen's. Evleen does have strict studio policies but I have never found them to be a burden. Her policies are similar to policies found at other places.

dance class the way it should be by kelly b. at InsiderPages
Ev-leen's Dance Studio is a warm atmosphere where dancers of all ages and skill levels can feel welcome. Eve-lyne teaches the fundamentals with an emphasis on strong classical technique, an area that many studios overlook in favor of glam, tricks, and trends. Eve-lyne choses her teachers very carefully and all of her instructors genuinely care about the children/dancers. If you want to learn it the right way, this is where you want to go. Not an intimidating snobby environment at all, but a place to really learn about dance as an art form.

My granddaughter loves Eve-Lynn! by Paula W. at InsiderPages
My granddaughter has been a student for 3 1/2 years. Eve-Lynn is a strict teacher, but seeing how the spoiled girls can interupt a class, not to mention rude parents, it's a good thing she is. My granddaughter has learned grace that many girls her age no longer have. Her new studio, although not parent-friendly to parents of younger kids who want to watch, is actually very nice for the girls to work in...very roomy, with lots of mirrors. My granddaughter looks forward to class each week, and adores Eve-Lynn!

Get it Together (Would Not Recommend)
It is not acceptable for a teacher to be 15 minutes late to class. It is not acceptable for the owner to stand and talk to the teacher for 5 minutes during class; during a time that I have paid for dance instruction for my child. This company expects a notice a month in advance if your child will not be continuing classes, but they can and will call you less than 24 hours before class to cancel. You must pay up front, which is not prorated. Meaning, the tuition is the same whether there are 5 classes that month, or 2 classes that month. Which makes me wonder, do all places of business make you pay for a service that is not performed????

Mixed feelings
From the get go I found Eve-lyne (the owner) a very forthcoming person to work with. She is strict individual but is very good with the children and treats them all with love. It was very common to see her at the practices my daughter attended. I give her 5 stars.

My experience began to wain when time for the recital came on. Many of the parents found similar annoyances at the lack of actual training that was going on within the classes my daughter was attending. (I cannot speak for the classes where there were other teachers.) However this could be easily overlooked because of the specific circumstances during our time there. I would give our teacher 3 stars.

The real tipper for me was the dance rehearsal (no stars). Upon arriving with my child, women, whom I had never met, treated me like I didn't have a right to be there. They took my daughter and told me I had to leave the building. They stood inside the entry and blocked the passage, then shut the doors which were locked on the outside. I had to wait 2 hours outside in the heat, with no interaction with my child, or instruction from those involved in the production. Maybe it is just hard to find good help, but it was enough to make me just walk away.
