Still On Fire, But Turned Down A Little
I used to go here all the time 10 years ago, but hadn't been back in almost a decade until this past Saturday night. I was happy to see that not much had changed. (I thought it was great as it was.)
My favorite part remains that it's mostly outdoors. I like drinking (as well as dining) 'al fresco.' I've always been surprised how rare that is in San Diego, given the temperate climate here year round. But it's available here at En Fuego.
It was less crowded last weekend than it used to be 10 years ago. But that just made it easier for us to get drinks at the bar. It was still pretty full, but not like 'back in the day,' when it could get so crowded it would become impossible to make your way across the bar or upstairs.
Drinks here aren't cheap. But they're pretty reasonably priced, I think, given the location in Del Mar. I've also always liked that the bartenders here are particularly friendly. And they were again the other night.
Amazingly, I've never actually eaten here, despite having been to En Fuego dozens and dozens of times. I've never heard anything bad about the food here. But I've never heard raves either.
Parking can be a little bit of an issue here, though, I should note. So at popular times (like weekend nights) be prepared to circle the nearby residential side streets for a few blocks before finding a space.
