Overall: Saturday Pozole. A place to gather and slurp soup. El Sol y La Luna has pozole (chicken soup with chunks of hominy) only on the weekend and it is delicious. Soup it up on the covered patio while grackles dive bomb just vacated tables for chips. The food ranges from some fine healthy choices to the gooiest chili con queso you can imagine. If you come around noon on Saturday and see a large group of arty people who are passing around mysterious objects (We do a show and tell) then stop by and give us some Mojo.
Value: Great prices for solid Tex-Mex in the heart of the SoCo district. Added value is that they have revolving Austin artists exhibitions.
Service: Sometimes slow but willing to please. Always friendly.
Quality: The migas have been rated some of the best in Austin.
Pros : The mole is really rich and magic. The lemonade aqua fresca is just sour enough. The fresh OJ is heavenly. Close to downtown and in the middle of a great neighborhood.
Cons : El Sol can get crowded with a wait during peak music festival times such as SXSW. I recommend to put your name on the list, then walk around to the neighboring shops. The parking lot is tiny but there is usually a spot on the side street. For coffee aficionados buy your java at Jo's next door and pack it in to El Sol.
