Lazy Staff by Trisha P. at InsiderPages
I am very upset to say this store has got one lazy staff member. I don't know who it is. All I know is that I called to see if they had any Paula Deen cookbooks and she told me they have no computer system to look it up. I explained to her I live at least 40 minutes away and that I didn't want to drive all the way out there and then find out they didn't have any. I have been in this store a couple of times before and this store is not near as big as the Greensboro store and she wouldn't even bother to check this out for me. In the Greensboro store it is three times this big and every time I call they always immediately help me out. Also every time I go in the Greensboro store some one always helps me out within a minutes time. They are always more than welcome to help you and treat each customer as if they were the first one to walk in the store opening that day. If you can afford to pay the high prices of new hard back books then do so. But if you are like me and are trying to save a little on gas and entertainment and you live near the Greensboro please go there. You will be much more satisfied.

LOW prices & More than just books!
I wish I would've known about this place when we moved here 2 year ago! There's some negatives, but the positives FAR outway them. We've discovered the store about a week ago and have been there 4 times already and traded in a few books for store credit as well!
PROS:
Low prices (from gently used to almost new!),
Great Location, Friendly Staff and well staffed--you don't have to wait too long in line!
Have CDs, DVDs, Childrens Books, Lots of Paperback fiction, Classics & Textbooks
All prices we've compared to internet have been lower!
CONS:
That the store isn't bigger...it's almost bursting at the seams!
That the genres are poorly organized, confusing, and the genres' signs are small/sloppy...so you have to ask the staff for help unless you know exactly where your desired genre is located
Warning: if you're looking for fine, hardback editions, etc this may not be for you! Here it's all about bargains!

Puzzled by Karen T. at InsiderPages
TOTALLY UNSATISFACTORY. I am a literature professor. Generally speaking, I consider any kind of reading that people will do --cereal boxes, TV Guide, anything-- to be just fine. The important thing is to read. That being said, the people who posted positive comments here must certainly be paperback book readers who consider books disposable items. If you love books, if you want hard cover editions, if you are a collector, Edward McKay is NOT for you. The staff is EXCEPTIONALLY RUDE at all times, especially to folks who take in hard backs to sell or trade. I was amazed to be told, after waiting half an hour for someone to look at my books, in the most offensive way that books ranging from very current NYT best-selling fiction to popular coffee-table art books to great literature, all in excellent condition were worthless. The clerk interacted with me exactly as though I had brought in a stack of stained pornographic magazines. Meanwhile, most of the hard cover books in the store are in a tiny corner way in the back. There is no selection. I DESPISE this store. I NEVER do business there, because I am not looking for dog-eared, silverfish-infested, greasy, maimed paperbacks. It is definitely a low-class joint, nasty in every way.

Amazingly Rude Staff
The boombox is set at full volume. When I requested the store clerk to turn the music down so I could hear him, he ignored me -- several times. He then said he couldn't set up an account for a charity. I told him I would wait in the parking lot until he totaled the books because I couldn't take the noise. When I returned, he hadn't started the books -- he was busy staring into space. I left with my books but had to return because another clerk had stolen some. It gets one star because that is as low as the rating would take. It's odd that I have to sign up to post this. I will never have anything to do with Edward McKays again.

Great Store by Angela G. at InsiderPages
I always leave happy when I visit Ed McKay used books. We have become regulars when it comes to visiting both locations (Greensboro and Winston Salem). The best part about these stores is you can take your old books in and get a store credit that can be used on other books. Its an ongoing cycle. We now buy a lot of our DVDs here and almost all our books. If you visit regularly you will notice usually within 4 to 6 weeks you can find some of the newest books our on the market and the prices are always reasonable. The parking is adequate and the store is clean.
