Ebisu sushi was awesome. They are located right in Hillcrest and it was pretty crowded when we went so we had to wait...Which was fine because they have a really cool loungy back room, complete with a bar and dj to kill the time.

They serve specialty cocktails and appetizers at the bar...but be warned it's pretty crowded back there also. The dj gives it a hip vibe and it is set up to be able to accommodate large groups. The main dining room has booth and chair seating and can accommodate both large and small groups - the corner booth is great for a romantic date! ;)

The rolls are really good and the sushi chef has a few specials up his sleeve...yum!!

The servers were super nice and totally took care of us - our server in the bar area forgot my drink so he comp'd an appetizer and a drink (not bad)!
Pros : Good food, great set up, cool place!
Cons : Parking is horrible...good luck!!

Ebisu is one of my favorites. As I like to skip from one sushi bar to the next, it seems that Ebisu combines the best of sushi bar dining, sit down dining, and as an added bonus a lounge in the back with a DJ spinning mellow beats. The whole place is tied together well, and chef Elija is overall a nice guy, always willing to answer my pesky questions about fish, which ones are better, as well as random facts about the art of making sushi.
Pros : Great fish and a variety of seating, both intimate and for a group.
Cons : Uh vey, the parking is a bit of a problem.

San Diego is rife with sushi joints, so it is often hard to differentiate between the ones that offer quality fare. This venue rises above the others by the friendliness of the staff. I have often perched myself at various sushi counters watching in awe as the sushi chefs performed their tasks. Here the sushi chefs will actually converse with you and explain what they are doing. I found this quite refreshing and it made my dining experience much more enjoyable.
Pros : Try the rainbow roll. it epitomizes the best of California sushi fusion.
Cons : As with most venues in Hillcrest, parking is always a problem. Paid parking across the street at the Rite-Aid Pharmacy may be your only option.
