Not again in this lifetime
I went to the dentist because my GP couldn't find a problem and I had pain in my mouth. The elder Dumas immediately extracted a wisdom tooth. When I went back nearly a week later with even more pain and then paralysis on the right side of my face, he basically told me that I was making up the symptoms and that they'd go away. (When I asked about the paralysis, he said, "What paralysis? I see your face moving fine.") I asked him if I should see another doctor about the symptoms he couldn't help me with and again, he said, "What other symptoms? You're fine." Finally, a friend took me to the ER where I was immediately diagnosed with Bell's Palsy. Now, I don't expect a dentist to be able to diagnose a nerve problem (although maybe I should since it was a facial nerve), but I do expect all health care professionals to take their clients pain and other symptoms seriously.
