Stepping out the car was the hardest part because I had driven a long way and found myself lost in the middle of freaking nowhere. I was sitting in a dirt and gravel parking lot looking a building with a sign I couldn't pronounce. Just then I saw a little old lady with a silver cart of baked goodies shove her way through the front door. I followed her. Drooling. And so began my Dong Phuong adventure. The first time I bought a sandwich. It was Vietnamese ham, carrots, cilantro, and some kind of sauce all on a fresh baked pistolet. It was $3 and heavenly. I was working in the area at the time, so I went back everyday thereafter to try something new in the tiny crowded bakery. This bakery is self serve and yet there are very few labels marking the various meat pies and sweet buns. You've got questions? Oh well. Lots of good stuff to eat from a huge menu. They also have a small bakery attached to the restaurant. We like to stop and get the delicious vietnamese style po boys - french bread with stuff like pate and pickles with cilantro. You've gotta try one sometime!‎

The attached bakery has the best french bread in the city. The bread is made all day long and the pistolettes are dumped in a bin to be bagged by the purchaser. It is worth the trip. ...
