It was with great apprehension that we decided to remodel our kitchen. Even though our old kitchen was woefully inadequate (little storage space, 1926 era cabinets falling apart, ridiculous layout, shoddy work in “update” attempts, etc), we were anxious about wandering into this huge project knowing as little as we did about how to accomplish what we had in mind. We knew we would be spending a lot of money, that (based on the experiences of friends) there were many things that could go wrong, that the disruption would be considerable in magnitude and duration, that we would need to agree on myriad decisions, large and small, and that there was no way to prepare for every contingency. We knew we had one shot at getting this right and weren't feeling particularly optimistic after visiting a number of showrooms. Fortunately, we then found Custom Kitchens. Joy and Nader were endlessly patient with us as we worked together to develop/revise the design and select materials/appliances. ...

I love my kitchen. I just came from visiting two friends and two kitchens that were recently redone, and I was again struck by how outstanding my kitchen remodel is. I have to tone down my gushing and simply say: the design work was spot-on with my taste, needs, and 100yr old cottage; the workmanship was first class; the workmen were respectful, hardworking professionals; the follow-up has been great. No one can believe that the schedule and budget were kept and on Oct 30, as promised, the job was complete and Luis from CK was washing the windows! As you know, I had some budget considerations and thus, some compromises but after all is done, I don't remember what the compromises were. Neighbors and friends love to come and visit the kitchen and have been known to bring other friends to 'show off' my kitchen. Thank you again for the new kitchen and for adding this joy to my life. Custom Kitchens is a misnomer – they do FAR more than kitchens! And they do an excellent job! We have lived in and remodeled many homes in San Francisco over the past years, yet we were new to the East Bay when we moved into our lovely 1930's Claremont Pines home. We wanted a new kitchen, two bathrooms and many cosmetic upgrades throughout. Custom Kitchens was fabulous at every step: good design work in the kitchen, helpful guidance on upgrades and finishes throughout. And in contrast to the many other remodels I've experienced, the “on time and on budget” that Custom Kitchens provided was impressive. (I liked that they were willing to do either “off the shelf” or custom cabinetry in the kitchen and baths – I ended up choosing custom, which they built at an extremely high quality and aesthetic level – but I very much appreciated their flexibility.) Just about everyone has a remodeling horror story, or knows someone who does. Because we chose to work with Custom Kitchens, we are happy to say we do not have such a story. They are, uniformly, fantastic people with whom to work to achieve a beautiful, functional room or rooms. Our kitchen was finished in 9 1/2 weeks. The work people were on time every day, and I could see progress on the job everyday. Joy and Nader took our conversations and made a plan that captured the look, feel and functionality that we wanted. Also, Custom Kitchens stands by their work. When I couldn't find a specific replacement light bulb for one of our fixtures, Nader brought it (and some extras!) right over. When we are ready for more remodeling work on our house, I will not hesitate to call Custom Kitchens.‎
