Curves Advocates a Pro-Ana (Anorexia) Message
Curves claims that it "has a commitment to help women around the world become strong and healthy through diet and exercise." This photo is a shot of a sign they have up in their window. http://dasunrisin.blogspot.com/2009/11/c... It says, "Come spend your lunch hour with us! Nothing tastes as good as thin feels." This phrase promotes eating disorders and unhealthy body image. It advocates skipping lunch and working out instead. It uses guilt to manipulate women into using its product. There is nothing empowering or healthy about it! I called to complain, and the manager, Jen, informed me that Curves stands by this message. She claims that it has been a great advertising mechanism.
