We went to Crossroads to buy a new Jeep Compass last week and trade in our Jeep Wrangler, we got a great deal and loved it.
Two finance guys and the salesman called and left my husband messages, and when he called back to speak with the finance guy who did NOT do the financing stuff for us, he said there was a rebate form we needed to sign.
We went in to sign this form, waited 20 minutes, then were told that the $2000 rebate was taken out twice (it was added to the total of the trade in by one guy, then entered as a rebate by another one) and now we had to either A. pay $2000 more for the car or B. decide not to buy it and take the Wrangler back.
We argued/debated for about an hour about how this is HORRIBLE customer service, if we owned the dealership we wouldn’t have even CALLED us and would have just eaten the $2000 as it was THE DEALERSHIP’S mistake, and had to endure them explaining it to us again, and us interrupting them to tell them we get it, so stop explaining it, THEN them accusing us of SEEING the difference on the purchase agreement and signing anyway because we were “getting away” with a better deal and apparently KNOWING the difference between what we looked at the night before with the salesman, which is a ton of random numbers, NONE of them being the total cost we were financing, written out by the salesman on the back of a piece of paper, and the purchase agreement.
THEN we had to explain to them that we bought the car BASED ON THE NUMBERS ON THE PURCHASE AGREEMENT and NOTHING ELSE, not what the salesman said or wrote down. AND apparently they only made $200 on the sale BEFORE they made the mistake, so they would be losing $1800 if they gave us BOTH rebates, which #1 probably isn’t true #2 is the cost of making a mistake, and #3 most of their revenue comes from the after market maintenance/repair in the service/body shop, anyway.
SO we spoke with the finance guy, the store manager, and they called the general manager and said the “best they can do is add $500 to the trade in value.” They also said they “can’t” just eat the $2000. We politely informed them that there is a HUGE difference between CAN’T and WON’T.
So we decided to take our Wrangler back on the principle of the matter and we will be writing a letter to the owner of the dealerships!
